Fiorinal Tablets (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have tried several drugstores for the fiorinal tablet and cannot find them. I have taken them for several years, the capsule is not effective and neither is the fiorcet. Where can I find the fiorinal (butalbital-Asa-caffeine tablets, 50-325-40)

The pharmacy distributors now- will only sell the tabs to the pharmacies without the ASPIRIN ingredient (too much stomach bleeding...) and have substituted instead of Aspirin- tylenol! Yes, it's available in NY State but be CAREFUL- what you ask for.......

I prefer the long lasting tabs vs. the capsules.

Good Luck!

I agree that the capsules don't do a thing for pain! I've called the manufacture of the brand fioricet and all they would say is it's a business decision to stop making the tablets. Who else can we call? Anyone have any ideas? Something needs to be done because the capsules don't do a thing and we have to pay for them!!

I'm in the same dilemma. Last night I suffered so much because the capsules were in effective. In addition to taking two capsules I took two sets of three advil (1 Hr apart) and cold wash cloth. Suffered for about 3 hours before any relief came so I could get my night's sleep.

Re: fiorinal tabs w/ aspirin.

You're right! They refuse to make them anymore w/aspirin! I think it's all Greed! Capsules don't last that long; can't divide them if you want to, etc.

It's all about $$$$$$$

I hope these people are wrong. I just talked to the people you change your medicare plans to. I currently have to pay $48 for 30 fiorcet that don't do much. Next year they told me it will cost me $324 for 30 pills! It's not covered by my insurance anymore, but this is ridiculous as it wasn't covered this year paying $48 - now $324. It's practically an aspirin. Doesn't anymore oversee drug price increases in the pharmaceutical industry. Activis makes these pills. Highway robbery!

I have been taking the capsule form of Butalbital Compound generic for Fiorinal for over a year. I find that I have to take a steroid to get relief when Migraine is not caught in time, or I wake up with one. The steroid is Methylprednisolone 4 mg. This works 75% of the time.

I too very much miss the tablet form. I don't feel I get enough pain relief or have enough control over the dose. It would be like Christmas morning to get the tablets back.

I've taken Fioricet, which isn't as powerful and got VERY sick because I took more than 6 in 12 hours. Yes, that's a lot, but being in Migraine pain you get desperate. In addition to throwing up, I had deep muscle pain and chills. I'll never take anything with Tylenol again in my life!

Yes a business decision due to the fact the cost so much more i was paying 60.00 a month for my caps i always used the tabs and they worked better.

Ann, I, too, have used Fiorinol tablet with aspirin (Butalbital-ASA-Caffeine) for years, & as far as I'm concerned, it's a miracle drug. It stops the headache from coming, & it gets rid of the stars & the sick feeling, all in about 15 minutes. This last prescription was filled with capsules & didn't work! I have tried Fiorinet in the past & that didn't work either. Why do they do something like this, & how could they have changed it so it doesn't work anymore?!

Is there an equivalent to Fiorinal without the blue (or any) dye? For decades this is what worked for me. Now we cannot get simple Fiorinal without the blue dye which I am allergic to? Any options or will I have to go to a compounding pharmacy? Not interested in other meds...no codeine or other substitutes...just looking for but/asa/caf.

I feel so bad that you are allergic to the dye in the capsule. You cannot get Fiorinal in tablet form anymore. In my experience, the capsule form is far less effective than the tablet. If you scroll through this thread and look on this site for other Fiorinal threads, you'll see my experience is not unique. My neurologist has prescribed Diclofenac and that does stop a migraine if I combine it with Extra-Strength Excedrin and take it at the first sign of a headache. It is a red pill. Maybe it will help you. When a migraine hits overnight, I have to still take the Fiorinal with a steroid. I wish you good luck and if you find a solution, please update this thread.

Re: Kiki (# 34) Expand Referenced Message

I take Fioricet which also has blue dye that I think I’m allergic to. My throat burns, I get an itchy face & my mouth feels a little swollen. What allergic symptoms do you get? I’ve been using Fioricet for years for migraines because I can’t take imitrex or maxalt. I never had this reaction to the white pill version of Fioricet.

Re: LC inFVNC (# 37) Expand Referenced Message

I have read so many replies on the topic of Fiorinal tablets being replaced by the ineffective capsules. I've come to the conclusion that the capsules are time released, therefore you'll never get the full dose at once anymore. Time release is the latest technology to combat addiction to pain medication by releasing a little medication over time. Pretty sure that in the future, all types of oral pain medication will be manufactured as time released. This is such an oxymoron because anyone in moderate to strong pain needs the full dose right away. I find that I have to take the Fiorinal capsule with an extra-strength Excedrin to get pain relief. I have to take at the first sign of a headache and because of that, I need more of them then I did with Fiorinal tablets. Doesn't bode well with my neurologist. I wish you good luck.

Does any other company besides Lannett make fiorinal, fioricet or the generics of these? I've been on them for 40 years. I now have to open the capsules as I have trouble swallowing pills. I had a bad reaction to a couple of them. Did they change the formula? Can I get them in Canada?????

Re: brooke (# 39) Expand Referenced Message

Welcome to the world of drug management, specifically addiction prevention. Fiorinal only comes in capsules that are time released. They are time released to curb the feeling of euphoria that can come with a full dose of medicine in this category. This is an insult to those who suffer with migraines as a full dose of medicine right away is our only hope of getting real relief. If by any chance you find the tablets in Canada, please post back. They are not in the United States. What I now have to do is take the Fiorinal with Extra Strength Excedrin and in most cases get relief. You wrote that you can't swallow the capsule. I would tell the pharmacist. They may have some tricks/guidance. Good luck
