Find A Doctor That Prescribes Methadone Minnesota

Hi,
I have been on 90mg of methadone for about 5 years for chronic and many pain issues, my dr has retired and my current dr does not want to keep me on my meds. Does anyone know a Dr in Minnesota who will help?

Most doctors are going to be reluctant to prescribe Methadone, since it is so highly addictive.

Additionally, due to the new regulations that were put in place by the DEA last year, a general practice physician can't prescribe it, you'll need to see a pain management specialist.

The FDA lists this as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?

Is there a chance your PCP might be able to refer you to someone that could help?

VERNON I wish you would stop commenting that PCP can no longer prescribe pain medication for long term chronic pain patient and only a pain specialist can do so because it is just not true. In the past year I have gotten my med from a family doctor in MN and when I lived in FL 1 1/2 years ago it was the same. The DEA does not restrict any MD or DO in good standing from prescribing opiate pain medication. What is happening instead is that these doctors are choosing not prescribe the med because the extra required paperwork it takes to report and the possible risk of losing there license that is overly stated. There is enough false information out there as it is. Please don't add to it.

Contrary to popular postings the DEA does not inact new laws regarding controlled substnaces. It is the FDA. The FDA has only changed the scheduling of a couple products. The FDA is educating MD's on safer prescribing but these are only guidlines. An MD is not required to change the way they've been treating patients unless governing bodies feel it is unsafe. People need to get the facts straight.

Sheila, I'm in St.Paul and I had to get my teeth pulled a year ago and my doctor was retiring and moving to China. I was referred to this doctor at the HP Specialty Center. She seemed promising, however, I was out right lied to and now I'm trapped in a nightmare and need another doctor asap. She had her own agenda all along. She began taking me off methadone without any alternative treatment plan. She already started tapering me down 5mg every month which began in June. I've been on the same dose for 12+ years and it took 70% of my pain away. I am not finding any doctor that uses methadone for chronic pain. If you have Health East insurance, the U of M will take you as a new patient. They will not take anyone else. There is a place in Burnsville on Hwy 13 and 117th St.Valley Pain Relief and Wellness. Stay away! My chiropractor is across the lot from them and I checked it and the do offer methadone but, it's my doctor's mother's place and she works there part time. She may do what she did to me and it is truly a freakin nightmare. If anyone can help, please help! I do not want to go back to the pain I had back in 2001.
