can taking iron pills when you already have enough iron in your system result in being tired and sleepy throughout the day.I only take one pill a day

Peggy you should not be taking iron if you don't need it it could cause problems. Lynne

Lynne is correct, if you aren't low in iron and have no need to take them, you should not do so, because it could cause liver damage, and possibly liver failure, according to FDA warnings. There is a liver disease that results when someone's body can't process iron out of their body, it is called Hemochromatosis, it can be managed, but often results in death, if it is not controlled. Taking too much iron can cause a very similar condition.

Thus, if you are feeling tired and sleep throughout the day, it would be best to consult your doctor to have your iron levels checked out, as well as your liver enzyme levels, for your own safety.
