The FDA classifies it as a beta-lactam antibiotic. It is not, however, approved in the U.S., yet. The FDA declined approval, though they didn't provide specific reasons on why they did so.
The clinical uses lists are for acute bacterial sinusitis, community acquired pneumonia, acute execrations of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated skin and structure infections, plus urinary tract infections.
