Fentanyl Patch 12.5 Mg Withdrawal

my Dr has suggested that I cut Fentanyl 12.5 patches in half to reduce dosage and eventually stop using them, I have been using them for about three years/3.5yrs But I am confused as the leaflet says not to cut them. I would like to stop using them and this has been his only advice.

It depends on the type of patch, it seems there are some that can be safely cut, but it would be best to ask your pharmacist, before doing so, to be sure.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

There are differnt types of patches some have a liquid dispencing method and would not be cutable ---- i would ask the dr to write down that order in his visit sumery that you should be getting after your appt- ///

Thank you, I have asked the Pharmacist at the hospital(I'm in UK)and she has also said that it is not a good idea to cut them in two 'as you may not cut them evenly and this may affect the dose', but I was not really convinced that that is a sound reason, so I'm left with the feeling that there is no really good reason not to cut them, and to trust my GP. I am a dressmaker so I think I can cut a small square in two quite accurately. But that still leaves me with some doubt.
