Fentanyl - How Long Does It Take To Get Out Of Your Body
UpdatedAfter one fentanyl 50 (much less than 18hrs on skin till he ripped it off) my boyfriend is so sick. He does not want to get out of bed because every move makes him more nauseous. He has thrown up all day. Doesn't know how as he hasn't even held down a sip of water or even ginger ale. I tried to get him to eat a piece of toast and the smell of it made him throw up. He hates pain meds as they usually make him feel horrible. He had back surgery in 08, has had inj's in lower back 3 times in past year. His PC dr has given him Lyrica this week before this fentanyl. He stopped it as he just wanted to sleep. He is scheduled for an MRI on Friday. How long will he be this sick?

I am so sorry about the side effects he experienced. I had the same problem when I tried Fentanyl years ago and I was miserable.
It may take about a week, or so, before all the side effects taper off and go away, according to the FDA.
However, he should gradually improve each day. If he doesn't, he should seek medical attention.
Is there anything else I can help with?
My goodness I pray it doesn't take that long. He just cannot stay out of bed, threw up 15 times so far, mostly all yesterday. I keep pushing the liquids as dr said if he can't keep those down he will be dehydrated to get him to ER. Thankfully has now kept a bottle of water & about 4 oz of juice. Says his stomach is really hurting. Thank you for your response, very scary stuff. Made certain his drs office put opioid intolerant on his chart. Hoping tomorrow's MRI will let us know exactly what is needed.
Thankfully was much better on Friday, back to old self with an appetite on Saturday.
How long before it's out of your body/system?? Can't find the answer any where
Re: Verwon (# 1)
50 mcg is too much for someone to start on especially if they have not been on other medication daily. Like oxycodone or hydrocodone. They make a 12 mcg patch. They should have started with that. I got very sick at first on the fentanyl too, but the nausea generally goes away if dosage is kept low and it works very well for pain. Those doctors could have killed him. There is also a 25 mcg patch. They never should have gone that high unless he was already used to high doses of morphine or the other drugs I mentioned.
Get him help somewhere else. Do not let him get on Fentynyl!
Re: Verwon (# 1)
I was told to get medical help getting off of Fentanyl by 2 doctors and a psychiatrist. Don't try alone and do NOT take Suboxone without seeing a doctor.
Re: The brat (# 4)
2 months at the very least. The traces linger. I had to cut and strip my hair. Shave my arms and bathe in vinegar and bleach. When I'd sweat, I could smell the Fentanyl coming out of my pores. It's been 4 months and I can taste it in my mouth. It may leave the bloodstream but don't be fooled. It's still there. The traces linger on and in skin. Especially where patches were applied.
Re: Troubled (# 2)
They can do a swab analysis to determine what he can tolerate.
Re: Meafoodie (# 5)
I started on 12 mcg after Oncologist had me on 400 Narco and unlimited Delaudids a month. I moved quickly to 100 mcg and chose to get off.
Re: Verwon (# 1)
Bunch of pussies .you cant die of a cluck or rattle from opiots.unless u have othe contributing health problems....i do agree on sleeping however.leaving the opiots alone will also leave you spending many nights on a rattle without sleep for between a few days and a few months .i sould know as ive done it.its a great pain relief but a bastard to get off
He is in what’s known as a Fentanyl crisis and needs an er to prevent what could come next. Withdrawal is the process of hormones and levels returning to normal, but stopping like this could put undo stress on the heart and blood pressure he needs professional help now or he could have seizures or even a stroke. I don’t know dosage or length of time he was using it.
What you are doing will only get worse for him I promise. Go to an er now as he is opioid dependent. Go now and don’t play with this medicine. You must taper.
