If you chew fentanyl patch how long does it stay in your system

Can chewing on half of a 25 mg fentanyl overdose you? I have a friend that's been struggling with a drug problem, today he was chewing on exactly half of 25 mg patch and said he was starting to feel it an extreme amount. About 20 minutes later he said he was starting to feel scared because of the effects. I'm worried about my friend, I've known him a very long time and have been trying to get him away from his addiction.
