In such cases, the Fentanyl skin patch is usually prescribed, that why it bypasses the stomach, so there is nothing to hinder its absorption. It is a very potent medication, over 80 times stronger than Morphine and each patch is worn for 48 to 72 hours, depending on the person's pain levels and tolerance.
The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
