False Positive On Drug Test For Methamphetamine (Page 4)

Hi, i am voluntarily drug testing for CPS because my daughter's father (who had physical custody) passed away suddenly due to a motorcycle accident leaving her "without a legal guardian" I have a previous history of using Methamphetamine. I am clean now or so i thought. Yesterday my test apparently showed positive for Methamphetamine. I know i haven't used. So far i have only came up with two possible explanations.

1. I just had to serve my ex boyfriend with a domestic violence restraining order. To make a long story short, not thinking, I ate some fast food that he insisted on leaving for me. And the 2nd being a cold medicine that I just remembered. I took one pill approximately 2 maybe 3 days ago called ST. JOSEPH DECONGESTANT-FREE HBP. Is it possible that this medicine caused a false positive? Thanks in advance for listening and any insight.

I have been sick for a few months now and have been taking a lot of cold, flu, decongestant, nasal spray, and Sudafed during this time. I recently took a drug test and came up positive for methamphetamine. Could those meds cause that?

Positive for methamphetimine on the cps urine test that I took 4 hrs + after I took a urine test at my methadone clinic in which I came up negative for methamphetimine!! Furthermore, my "clean" test shows methamphetimine levels @ 534 and the one that I took 4+hours later shows my level at 850! Please can u give me any kind explanation the this outcome?

Hey desperate need help, Read my post #90 because my answer is going to be about the same. You should start with the doctor who gave you those prescriptions and see what he/she has to say. It's a complicated issue so it's best to consult the medical professionals. There might be some cross reaction between drugs.

I'm on amitriptyline, neurontin, xanax, norco, lisinopril and have also been taking sudafed, nyquil and vicks inhaler for a cold. I recently failed a drug test for methamphetamine. Can someone please help me figure this out? I have not used methamphetamine at all. I have done some research and I know that some of these can show positive but only methamphetamine showed on my test, none of my other meds showed at all. I am taking pyridium plutonium and even though I told my po this he still insisted I take the test. What should i do?

Kathry cb, I am assuming it was a urine drug test. It might be possible some of those drugs might be cross-reacting to cause a false positive for methamphetamine but I am not sure. You might ask the physician who gave you the meds to answer that question. Also check my post #74 for information about an MRO. An MRO is the one to ask that question. You might consider doing a Hair 5 Drug Panel test. A hair test has a lower false positive rate and would give you a better idea of what is going on.

I passed a urine test but failed a hair test for methamphetamine. I was wondering if taking pro air afe 90mg and Prednisone 20mg could be the reason why?

I took a test today and have tested before and they were fine, but today i tested positive for methamphetamine, and i haven't and don't do any type of non legal drug. I take zorvolex 35 mg, wellbutrin, celexa, buspirone, bupropion, ropinnirole, bystolic, citalopram, hydroxyzpam and norvask. I've been sick and i've taken robitussin, tylenol extra strength cold and flu gel caps, generic nasal spray, allergy relief & nasal decongestant. Claritin D (loratadine) ups 10mg (an antihistamine), pseudoephedrine sulfate usp 240mg (a nasal decongestant). The box has 10 extended release tablets per box and i've taken two out of this box. And i was given a sample box of migraine pills from my dr. I picked up along with my bystolic blood pressure pills from dr. anderson's nurse, called relpax eletriptan. Could any of these make me fail a drug test for methamphetamine?

Kelly, Positive for what??? Was it a urine test or hair test??? About the only thing you can do is pay for the re-test your self. A hair test is meant to show consistent use over time. A 1.5 inch sample, cut at the scalp line, will go back 90 days. Plenty of people have done their own Hair 5 Drug Panel but most hair tests don't test for methadone. Also whoever wants the drug test might not accept hair drug test results but they are used in court all the time. If you go to a collection center they will fill out the proper paperwork, called a chain of custody form, that makes it a more able to be use in an official way like court or agency.

I tested positive on a cps ordered test but negative on a random test I took RIGHT before that at my methadone clinic. They took my 10 year old who has down syndrome and who is not verbal away from me and put him with strangers. He hasnt eaten in 4 days. Today I adked for a retedt of my supposed dirty test from them and I was informed they dont do that!!!

Brad, I can't say for sure since I am not an MRO (see post #74 for MRO info) but if you are using things like asthma inhalers that might be one. You didn't say what kind of urine test was false positive but regardless any false positive should have a GC/MS confirmation test done to confirm the findings. If that was not done than whoever did the test should be seriously questioned about their competency.

Sertraline should not give a false positive for methamphetamine for a hair drug test or urine lab test.

Richard,
Since I am not a doctor I can't say for sure what might be interfering with the blood test. You should start with the doctor that gave you the prescriptions and if he/she doesn't have any answers you need to consult an MRO. See my post #74 about MRO's.

I recently failed a blood test for methamphetamine. I'm on oxycodone 30mg, celexa 40mg, diazepam 5mg, neurontin 800mg and seroquel 300mg. I'm looking at jail time and I DON'T do methamphetamine. I'm VERY upset. Please help.

Hydrocodone should NOT cause a false positive for methamphetamine. You need to find out if the doctor sent the sample to the lab for confirmation GC/MS test. GC/MS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry) is the gold standard for drug testing. If he did not send it to a lab for confirmation you may have some legal recourse. You could also do a Hair 5 Drug Panel test with Extended Opiates to show you are not a constant user but it might cost some money, usually less than 200 dollars. I have not seen any answer to the question on if a person is taking hydrocodone tabs and a urine test is done and it comes back positive for methamphetamine usage. Can you please help me out as my doctor is trying to say that I am doing methamphetamine. Please respond ASAP.
