False Positive On Drug Test For Methamphetamine (Page 4)

Hi, i am voluntarily drug testing for CPS because my daughter's father (who had physical custody) passed away suddenly due to a motorcycle accident leaving her "without a legal guardian" I have a previous history of using Methamphetamine. I am clean now or so i thought. Yesterday my test apparently showed positive for Methamphetamine. I know i haven't used. So far i have only came up with two possible explanations.

1. I just had to serve my ex boyfriend with a domestic violence restraining order. To make a long story short, not thinking, I ate some fast food that he insisted on leaving for me. And the 2nd being a cold medicine that I just remembered. I took one pill approximately 2 maybe 3 days ago called ST. JOSEPH DECONGESTANT-FREE HBP. Is it possible that this medicine caused a false positive? Thanks in advance for listening and any insight.

You didn't say what type of a urine test you took. If it was a urine dip test, like you do at home, the remaining sample should have been sent to a lab for a GC/MS confirmation test. Usually methamphetamine is out of the system in a few days so something might be interfering with the test, maybe a OTC cold med?? It's hard to say.

How can I test a substance at home, to confirm that it is methamphetamine? It's a family member and I really don't want the rest of the family to know if it comes back positive and he is using again. I've taken a small sample out of a larger bag I ran across while doing laundry. I put it back...long time issues between the two families. Don't want to start a fire if there is no reason.

TheHairTestingGuy : They send my sample to the lab . Not sure if it's the Gc/MS lab . I can request to retest the sample right ? They will be able to see if it's the OTC cold meds ?

Dee: If they have any sample left I would request that it be sent to a lab for GC/MS testing. My gut feeling is that there is no sample that was preserved (refrigerated) to send to a lab. A GC/MS test should be able to distinguish between an OTC med and another drug substance.

TheHairTestingGuy : if sample was not preserved , it will be no good ? Positive samples don't automatically get sent to GC / MS lab unless requested ?

It depends on how long ago the sample was taken and/or whether it was refrigerated immediately after the initial test. Urine can be stored for between 12-24 hours at 39 degrees. After that the urine can grow bacteria which would contaminate the sample. If you think it was a FALSE positives it should be retested.

I think it just plain sucks that when you drug test for CPS in California you are not allowed to communicate with the lab. I mean cmon that right there only proves that CPS has something to hide. Cristina Gil de montes of CPS Escondido changed my test results and ruined my life. And they won't allow me the simple request of being able to confirm the results with the lab. Cristina, I'm still waiting for a good explanation as to WHY!! This is not right and I know a lot will be unconvered when this changes. Shame on you CPS. You ruined my life, my sons life and I can't wait until the day I sue the hell out of you.

I was wondering if there is a food that shows up positive for methamphetamine? My daughter said she doesn't use, but when i gave her a test it came up positive and she replied, "must have been something i ate."

There is no food that would show up on a urine or hair 5 drug panel test as methamphetamine. My best guess is that she is doing methamphetamine. You might consider doing your own Anonymous hair 5 drug panel test. It would give you a good idea if there is chronic use or just casual use.

Can Lorotec show up in my urine as any kind of Methamphetamine? I have been taking it for tooth pain and head pain and I took a urine test and it came out positive for some kind of Methamphetamine. What are the ingredients in Lorotec 30mg?

Lorotec should not give a false positive for methamphetamine. If it did the lab should have done a GC/MS confirmation to make sure.

Hello. Please anyone who could help with professional proof - I only take Ventolin hfa or albertol surfed inhalers and I have been coming out dirty for methamphetamine but never touch that s***. Now Cyfd got involved and are threatening to take my one month baby if I can't prove that they are false positives. Can Ventolin hfa or albertol surfed make you dirty for methamphetamine?

You didn't mention what type of drug test you took (urine, hair, saliva) but I am assuming it was a urine test. You might talk to the doctor who wrote the prescription and see what he/she has to say. There might be a possibility there is substance in Albuterol that is cross reacting and causing a false positive for methamphetamine. Also you might try to get a consult with an Medical Review Officer. An MRO is a doctor trained to interpret drug test results and say what might be happening. You can look at their association web site aamro.com to find an MRO in your area. Look for a link that says "Find an MRO". Also you might consider taking a Hair 5 Drug Panel test. A hair test has a lower false positive rate.

If that was a urine test they should have done a confirmation test using a GC/MS. You might ask them if they did a GC/MS test. Doing a GC/MS test should be standard procedure but a lot agencies aren't very smart or just plain lazy. If they didn't do a GC/MS test you might have some legal recourse. In that case I would contact a lawyer.

I have not seen any answer to the question on if a person is taking hydrocodone tabs and a urine test is done and it comes back positive for methamphetamine usage. Can you please help me out as my doctor is trying to say that I am doing methamphetamine. Please respond ASAP.

Hydrocodone should NOT cause a false positive for methamphetamine. You need to find out if the doctor sent the sample to the lab for confirmation GC/MS test. GC/MS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry) is the gold standard for drug testing. If he did not send it to a lab for confirmation you may have some legal recourse. You could also do a Hair 5 Drug Panel test with Extended Opiates to show you are not a constant user but it might cost some money, usually less than 200 dollars. I recently failed a blood test for methamphetamine. I'm on oxycodone 30mg, celexa 40mg, diazepam 5mg, neurontin 800mg and seroquel 300mg. I'm looking at jail time and I DON'T do methamphetamine. I'm VERY upset. Please help.

Since I am not a doctor I can't say for sure what might be interfering with the blood test. You should start with the doctor that gave you the prescriptions and if he/she doesn't have any answers you need to consult an MRO. See my post #74 about MRO's.
