False Positive For Oxycodone In Urine Drug Test

I take hydrocodone 500 Mg x3 a day, gabapentin 300mg, bid; carb /levo25-100mg at bedtime for restless leg;
Synthroid 0.15 once a day, Metformin Hcl ER 500mg once a day, cymbalta.,30mg, 1 capsule, once a day (I take in evening). I have degenerative disc disease in spine and neck. And diagnosed also with stenosis, and herniated disc without cord compression -I have no idea what that means- but I have pain most every min. I had a total R knee replacement. June 2009. I worked up till then and therapy after surgery brought out the DDD and other stuff. I just went through an appt. to get hydrocodone renewed and willingly gave a drug urine screen. Over one week later, I get a registered letter stating I showed positive for hydrocodone and oxycodone. I've never taken an oxcodone. But, I have been suffering from poison ivy and I took (maybe 2 pills) of an old vistaril 25 Mg. I honestly thought it was a benadryl. I know I took one cap, and possibly 2 caps prior from 1 to 3 days before my appt. The rash was on my face first- I Thoth I had an infected acne cyst going on my eyebrow and chin, so. I also took an old sudafed med from left over last year. I took 3 of these pills over a two day Period prior to appt. So now, I have to prove I'm not taking an oxycodone habit. They said I can no longer get my controlled medicines filled at their Meridian Health Services. Its been over a week by this next Monday. I'm calling in to make appt to clear myself. Do I request a blood drug test?

Yes, you should definitely request additional testing and insist it be done by an actual lab and not just one of their quick on site, dipstick tests.

the false positive was probably caused by the Hydrocodone and they probably use a less expensive, non-certified test. Those types of tests are known to give false positives anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time.

hydrocondone shows up on dip stick as oxy and oppiates i know cause im on same for pain and anyone giving a drug test should know this in first place as per py po and also house arrest officer has explained to me

I'm trying to get a definitive answer to the Hydrocodone metabolizing into Oxycodone issue. I know I have seen similar questions and it seems the question is whether the test is 'good' or not.
Let me add this, If a confirmatory GC/MS test is used could one still get a False Positive.

Had a urine test today and the doctor said it came back positive for Oxycontin. I've never taken that drug nor even know what it does. He said I failed the test. How can this be?

I absolutely don't understand why the test came out that way and I'm still in disbelief. Thanks.

Im 32 and was in a mva in 2010 and had a genital replacement surgery along with a spinal fusion you tested positive for oxy bc your taking hydrocodone its all in the same family.... Injuries and disorders can put pressure on the spinal cord, causing back pain, tingling, muscle weakness, and other symptoms.

The spinal cord may be compressed by bone, blood (hematomas), pus (abscesses), tumors (cancerous or not), or a ruptured or herniated disk. Symptoms, such as back pain, abnormal sensations, muscle weakness, or impaired bladder and bowel control, may be mild or severe. Doctors base the diagnosis on symptoms and the results of a physical examination, magnetic resonance imaging, or another imaging test. Corticosteroids are often given to reduce swelling in or around the spinal cord and thus help reduce pressure on the spinal cord.

Depending on the cause, surgery and/or radiation therapy may be used to relieve the pressure. Normally, the spinal cord is protected by the spine, but certain injuries and disorders may put pressure (compress) on the spinal cord, disrupting its normal function. These injuries and disorders may also compress the roots of spinal nerves, which pass through the spaces between the back bones (vertebrae), or the bundle of nerves that extend downward from the spinal cord (cauda equina).

The spinal cord may be compressed suddenly, causing symptoms in minutes or over a few hours or days, or slowly, causing symptoms that worsen over many weeks or months.

Causes - The spinal cord may be compressed by the following:

Bone: If the vertebrae are broken (fractured), are dislocated, or grow abnormally (as occurs in cervical spondylosis), they may compress the spinal cord. Vertebrae that are weakened by cancer or osteoporosis may break after a slight or even no injury.

Connective tissue: Connective tissue that lines the spinal canal often enlarges and hardens as people age. This change narrows the spinal canal and compresses the spinal cord. (The spinal canal is the passageway that runs through the center of the spine and contains the spinal cord.)

An accumulation of blood (hematoma): Blood may accumulate in or around the spinal cord. The most common cause of a spinal hematoma is an injury, but many other conditions can cause hematomas. They include abnormal connections between blood vessels (arteriovenous malformations), tumors, bleeding disorders, and use of anticoagulants (which interfere with blood clotting) or thrombolytic drugs (which break up blood clots).

Tumors: Cancer that has spread (metastasized) to the spine or the space around the spinal cord is a common cause of compression. Rarely, a tumor within the spinal cord causes compression. The tumor may be cancerous or not.
A pocket of pus (abscess): Pus may accumulate outside the spinal cord or, less commonly, in the spinal cord and compresses it.

A ruptured or herniated disk: A herniated disk can compress spinal nerve roots (the part of spinal nerves next to the spinal cord) and occasionally the spinal cord itself.

Sudden compression usually results from an injury, which often causes a fracture or dislocation of a vertebra. However, bones weakened gradually (for example, by cancer or osteoporosis) may suddenly fracture, which can suddenly cause or worsen compression (see Compression Fractures of the Spine). Hematomas, abscesses, and ruptured disks can cause sudden compression but often cause compression gradually over days to weeks. Gradual compression may result from cancer or cervical spondylosis (degeneration of disks and vertebrae in the neck—see Cervical Spondylosis). Cervical spondylosis is the most common cause of slowly developing compression (over months to years).

I have to take urine drug screens. the only thing that I am on are suboxone and colazapam which are klonopin. I had a Jay the next morning. I took a drug test at 10 o'clock that morning and failed it for THC. I started drinking cranberry juice cocktail at 10 o'clock that morning by 5 o'clock that afternoon THC was no longer in my system. I have used this method several times before. it has to be room temperature or it won't work

Oxy is not same as Hydrocodone. You can fail a test thinking that. It is derived from 2 different plants.

Do not take anything you are not prescribed starting immediately. Go buy a flush, the "royal flush" works....if you will not be monitored buy fake urine.

Oxy and hydrocone are synthetic compounds that mimic opiates. They are similar compounds and both metabolize as codeine.

I take vicodin but not oxycodone (my doc recently had to start doing drug testing for those of us on narcotic contracts) and just got sent this letter from her saying we need to talk about all of these positive results at your next visit. So I'm stressed cause I haven't don't any of the drugs except the ones prescribed to me & I don't want her to think I am lying or doing drugs... What could explain it? I do take a lot of other meds and vitamins (tizanidine, krill oil, melatonin, gabapentin, etc). It also showed amphetamines too, but that's cause I'm on phentermine right? Thank you.

I take prednisone and i tested positive for oxycodone in a urine drug test, but I'm not on it. It also didn't show up in my hair. I need to know how it is possible and what can be done to fix this? Please reply to me asap. Thanks.

Talk to your doctor asap. Your doctor may not have realized that it may have upset you since you are not a druggie, or if it's just a form letter it may have been sent from a lab and your doctor who actually knows you may not have ever seen it. Believe me I have been there, don't wait, just make an appt, don't waste time and stress online finding out why this happened just go in and get it wiped off your mind. You know you didn't do anything wrong so just go in and talk, and then of course if you feel at the end of the appt you would feel safer in the long run with a blood tox screen just to cover your ass (like if this is some new doctor you don't trust to put this in their notes) then fine you have that option, but don't spend a month on the internet ok, just go in.

My friend said her son had a drug screen for his adderall and tested positive for oxycodone. She claims he hasn't taken any opiate medications and it's because he has taken Nyquil. Knowing her and what medications she takes I'm concerned he has taken some of hers. Out of concern for his well-being, can Nyquil show up as oxycodone?

No NyQuil will absolutely not show up as oxycodone. Not even close. Your friend needs to be real honest with herself and realize her son is probably using/abusing opiates and come up with a plan to help him asap.

I took a urine test which according to my provider came back presumptive positive for oxycontin. I do not take this medication but do take hydrocodone 5/325 tid only. Now they are doing a gc/ms test. How the hell can oxycontin show up if I don't use this product? Now they are making me jump hurdles and I'm a retired RN. I don't abuse meds and know the protocols and feel I'm being targeted because of the opiate crisis. I also have severe chronic pain.

I am prescribed Norco 10-325 4x's daily and Alprazolam 2mgs a day. Recently I was hospitalized due to a knife wound and was given two 50 mcg nasal doses of Fentanyl. I had to report to my parole officer the following day and had to submit a six-panel drug screen where I tested positive for oxycodone and suboxone. The oxycodone and suboxone must have been false because I did not take them.

I have been clean for a long time and this is my second time living sober. I take suboxone daily and I am given dip drug tests weekly. I have not relapsed or used anything other than what I am prescribed and that includes Adderall, Lyrica, and Gabapentin. I tested positive for Oxy on 12/26. I took to dip test at my suboxone clinic to rule out a bad dip test unit. I showed positive both times. I know I have not taken anything and I have had this happen to me one other time when I was going to a methadone clinic years prior. On the dip test I showed positive but when the same sample was sent to the lab and tested the results were only suboxone and Adderall as it should be. Now many years later it has happened again. I know it is the Lyrica because the first time this happened the lab tech did a great job and discovered that yes Lyrica can show as false positives on a dip test. So to those saying no it cannot, the person had to have relapsed. That's so not true. You should always be given the option to have your sample retested in a lab if the clinic you go to can only dip test in office. So if it does come up as Oxy and you know damn well you have not taken anything, know that Lyrica can and will at times show up as Oxy. It has only happened 2 times in 6 years and it's crazy that it happens at random. The next day 12/27 I went back to my clinic and my dip test did not show positive for Oxy. There is no logical reason why it only happens randomly when I take it all the time. I thought maybe because I took it so late at night the evening before my dip test but I proved that did not make a difference. So just request your sample be sent to a lab for verification if you show positive for Oxy but have not taken any but do take Lyrica.
