False Positive Ua At Methadone Clinic
UpdatedI had a false positive ua for opiates at my methadone clinic on June 28th. I had only given the sample less then 36 hours prior to being told it tested positive for opiates. I was completly in shock! How could this be possible? I HAVEN'T used ANYTHING since December 31st, 2015, and how could they possibly have results that quick when the sample has to go all the way to SanDiego, Ca from Renton,Wa(just south of Seattle, Wa)? I demanded that the sample be retested right away and paid the $15 fee for the retest, which is suppose to be an upgraded more accurate test. It took almost 2 weeks before the results came back and it was still positive! What is going on? How could this be happening? The more questions I started asking the less answers I got, So I began researching on my own, what could cause a false positive for opiates, when a person hasn't been around or ingested any form opiates in more then 6 months? I didn't even take the pain pills my dentist perscribed me when i had my tooth pulled. The more I researched, the more angry I got, the ua's that my clinic has been conducting are no where near Federal guidelines. They do not use sterile containers with temperature strips, instead they use a plastic dixie cup that has a black line marked on it by a sharpie, which means every cup has been touched already before you get it, also these cups sit out in the open 24/7 ontop of the "ua station" which is a rubbermaid cabnet, which in federal guidelines it states that the samples are to be collected using a sterile container that is sealed in plastic until the paitent opens it, and once the sample is collected, the sample IS NOT to leave the donors sight and is to be sealed immediatly with a tamper evident seal that goes over the topand another lable that the donor is to verify that the correct name, birthdate,and id number are on the front and initials both lables, a third lable goes into record. The sample then goes into a sterile, leak resistant bag to be shipped, which also should be labled and sealed with a tamper evident lable just like the sample. Typiclly the donor will also recieve a recipt proving you gave the sample and it also has a tracking number so your sample can be tracked. At my clinic none if this is done, like i mentioned you have a plastic dixie cup that has been touched, is unsterile and has been sitting in the open, also your sample is taken from your sight and transfered to another container and then sealed with the lables but rarely in front of you because they go as fast as they can to get them done. The samples are then placed into another ziplock bag that has the labs name on it, and the placed on a shelf in this rubbermaide cabnet, but in the federal guidelines it states that if a sample isn't being tested right away it is to be stored in a locked refrigorator until it is transported, which at our clinic is twice a week. But they surely arent refrigorated and definatly arent stored in a locked cabnet and in fact the bag they are placed into that should have been sealed by a tamper evident lable and an identification lable is merely a ziplock bag with our paitent number written in sharpie on it and then placed into the labs ziplock bag with all the other samples, also the bathroom isn't sanitized between testing and I have witnessed whoever is giving the test on multiple different occasions they're not changing their gloves in between texting either and a lot of the time they were having an intern conduct these tests unsupervised I could go on forever with things that aren't done right or within federal guidelines but the point is there's so many different ways to these tests can become contaminated because of their carelessness and they paid for the minimum testing possible have heard multiple falsies results but always thought yeah right but now I see how easy it is for it to happen but the more research I do the more things I find out the more I realize that and it's completely wrong and apparently these tests will not stand up in court which is my case my counselor at the clinic told me he would give me time to talk to my attorney before reporting the results but then that very day I got a phone call from the social worker that works on my case as I was in the middle of emailing my attorney and she stated that she received indication not one but two positive UA for the month of June I knew about the one on the 28th but where did the second one come from? So I confronted my counselor about this second you weigh apparently there was a positive test from June 10th that I was never notified of and apparently all the samples are destroyed after 30 days of being given so I have absolutely no chance to have this sample retested so why was this reported to my probation and this social worker before I even knew about it? So many things are done backwards at this place I am just in awe as I look at my counselor and explain to him I'm not a dummy and I know what the federal guidelines consist of and that this Clinic does not follow any of them not as far as touching as far as reporting none of them and ask him what is going to be done about this you can't possibly think that this test is accurate I have not had any positive UA since December 31st 2013 15 and now all of a sudden there are two? At this Clinic your samples are not observed so when you do a test no one wants to see and I have heard of many people bringing urine in a bottle and pouring it into this cup that they use because they want to get away with using drugs does my counselor really believe I'm stupid enough to walk into that place if I were dirty and pee into a cup knowing that it would be reported to my probation? How stupid does this guy think I am? And also I wanted to come to this place I was not told I had to I did this because I wanted to and I also requested weekly random uas and them to be observed I did this for 90 days ending in April butt still I do twice a month random use at my request the federal mandate is 8 random UA year. On another note I had surgery scheduled for yesterday 2/2 2/2 2 to have my carpal tunnel repaired and just about to go into surgery and be sedated and they stopped the anesthesiologist from going forward apparently my pregnancy test came up positive so the surgery could not be conducted and then doing some research last night I found that the head of the toxicology Center in Washington DC and the professor and expert on drugs post infants conducted a study not found that a positive pregnancy test can cause a false positive drug test new mom 70% of the time come up with a false positive drug test for methamphetamines opiates 26% of the time a new mom if test positive falsely for methamphetamine and 29% of the time for opiates when a basic in masonary test is conducted and it also States in the study that almost all initial tests are false or at least 70% of them because they are basic and many different things can cause a false positive so I hope to God with these new findings of my pregnancy and this study that was conducted and all of my other positive UA negative UA and me volunteering to have a hair follicle test and three times weekly random uas done at another facility I hope that they will believe that I am fact did not use an am not using because this is my freedom at stake in the custody of my children my advice is that if you are having an issue with a false positive UA at assemble Clinic like a methadone clinic make sure you have that sample requested to be shipped to a different laboratory and pay for the upgraded text to be done if you in fact you know that you have not ingested anything but the test is coming back positive make sure you pay for the upgrade a test I unfortunately was unaware that any of this could be done but in the future that is certainly what will be done if this ever happens again but you're pretty God will not.
