Failed Urine Test At Pain Clinic

I am on oxycontin 40 mg every 12 hours and 30 mg oxycodone every 4 hours as needed. Recently dilaudid showed up in my urine test and I was thrown out of the pain clinic. They refuse to discuss the lab results with me just told me to leave. I'm 62 years old and not a stupid person. I know I'm drug tested not even sure what dilaudid is. Now I'm going through horrible withdrawal after 6-7 years on pain meds. Panicking because I feel like I'm going to die. The pain is coming back and I'm going to be back in a wheelchair suffering and my life will be over. I never took anything but what they gave me. I went to a private lab for hair and urine testing at my own cost and am waiting for the results. Has this happened to anyone else and what was your outcome? Help me before I die.

Hello, Shar! How are you? I'm very sorry about what happened.

It's a shame that they won't discuss it with you, because it would be very beneficial to know whether or not they use a test and lab that is actually certified by the FDA. Not all of them are, and false results have been known to occur. Some still use them, though, because they are cheaper.

All the medications you've mentioned are narcotics, so it's very easy for one to cause a false result for another.

Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone and ideally, they should look at the ratio of it in comparison to the Oxycodone in your urine as explained by the Practical Pain Management Foundation. If the Oxycodone is where it should be and the Dilaudid reading was relatively low, then theoretically, it should be considered a false reading cause by the metabolites of the Oxycodone.

There are also other substances that have been known to cause false results. Did you take anything else, including over the counter medications?

When will you get the results back?

Hydromorphone is actually the name of the drug that showed up. They did say it was a high amount. I have not received any results yet from the other labs. I'm so sick. I'm afraid I'm not strong enough to get thru this. Suicide keeps going thru my head. I'm too old....
