The FDA classifies Cephalexin as an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections, so you can take it, as long as your doctor or dentist have said it's appropriate.

Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

However, trying to diagnose and treat it on your own isn't a good idea, you may not have enough of the antibiotic to fully eradicate the infection, it might be the wrong one and you'll still need to tooth repaired, or the infection will keep returning.
