This medication does not become toxic, once expired, but it can start to lose effectiveness, so it may not fully eradicate infectious bacteria, if you have an actual infection.
It would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor, to determine whether or not you actually have an infection and, if so, to obtain a new supply.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
