Hi janet,

Good question. In my personal opinion, brand name medications (as well as some generics) have become extremely (and unnecessarily) expensive due to the fact that the big pharmaceutical companies know that so many patients are dependent on the medications that they manufacture. They take advantage because they can... I wish it weren't true, but I believe this is the viewpoint of many others.

I imagine that some medications are expensive because of their ingredients and the time it took to create them, however it is out of control now and there are so many expensive medications that contain ingredients which lead to serious reactions and even death in some cases.

I personally stand by alternative and homeopathic remedies in most cases. There are some prescription medications and conventional medicines that are very important and beneficial, but I feel that the vast majority of them are just used to "cover up" health issues instead of treating the cause. Knowledge really is power and it's up to the individuals (patients) to research treatments for themselves and not always base decisions solely off the word of doctors and/or pharmacists.

Anyone else have information or comments to add regarding this topic?
