This is a 25mgs tablet, generic for Toprol XL and it is manufactured by Apotex, not Ethex.

Metoprolol is used to treat several types of cardiovascular diseases, including high blood pressure.

Some of the most common side effects include: dizziness, headache, diarrhea and vision problems.

I have been on Toprol xl 25 for 5 years. When it came out in the generic form, I took that. It was manufactured by Par. I recently moved and had to refill my prescription and I got it at CVS which only has Ethex generic Metoprolol XL 25. When I got the pills, I called CVS because they were a different shape (round instead of oval and much bigger) and all they said to me was that is was because they were made by a different manufacturer.

After taking 3 pills three nights in a row, I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom got dizzy and fainted ... I only lost consciousness for 2 seconds or so but I was black and blue for 2½ weeks on my arm, leg, etc. After speaking with the pharmacist from CVS the following morning, he told me that they're different than the ones that are made by Par because they have fillers. These fillers can make the drug 10 to 15% more potent. My blood pressure in the morning was 90 over 60. Thank goodness I had some of my old prescription pills left ... CVS only carries Ethex. I am trying to get the ones made by Par where I live and they can't seem to get them for me. The other pharmacist around where I live is trying to get the ones made by Par but is having a problem with getting them. Now if I can't get those, and I have to take the non-generic kind, will my insurance company cover it? I am livid at CVS!! I heard many more stories about Ethex and wouldn't take a drug made by them ever!

I am a 64 year old female and went on the medication because I was having palpatations ...

Anybody out there that can help in this situation would be very much appreciated.
