I used Refusal very successful in Holland, now I am in Bosnia where they only have Esperal. Good luck, alcoholism is a very difficult disease. Be careful with implant, I heard it really has risks. But better then drinking! Ronald

Hi Ronald,

You're absolutely right about alcoholism being a difficult disease to kick out of habit. However, I've heard that this type of treatment can be a real success for many people.

I haven't actually seen any medications by the name of "Refusal" listed on the web, but that could be because I'm located here in the US and not EU.

Apparently Esperal (disulfiram) works by creating what most drinkers would consider to be an unpleasant reaction to alcohol, eventually lessening one's desire to continue drinking. It's supposed to be a part of a whole recovery program, involving counselors and medical supervision for follow up during the course of treatment.

How has it been working for you up to this point?
