This can occur due to genetics, some medications, or extra folds/loops in the intestine/colon area, according to the NIH. Usually, the primary symptom is severe or chronic constipation.
In some cases, it requires surgery to be corrected. There are also cases where it's occurred due to an infection, so proper treatment would be required, if that is the case.
I have a friend that had it, years ago. Hers was simple to fix, when she was having surgery for something else, the doctor untwisted it for her, at the same time, rather than putting her under anesthesia multiple times. Not all may be that simple, of course.
Does anyone else have experience with this condition?
