Elevated Heart Rate From Meds

Updated July 23, 2017

After 1 dose of 25 mg hydrochlorothiazide I began experiencing an elevated heart rate (97-121 resting). After my 2nd dose I developed hives. I called the doctor's office on a Friday afternoon, spoke with a nurse, but no one called back. I stopped taking it 2 days ago. My heart rate continues to be in the 100-120 range. How long before this side effect wears off?

Hello, Sandie! I am sorry about the issues you've experienced. Has there been any change? Do you still have hives?

It could take awhile for such symptoms to go away, according to FDA reports. Those can be symptoms of an allergic reaction, which means you may need to try a different medication.

Is this the only one you are currently taking?
