Ecotrin Side Effects

I had a double heart valve replacement in 1999. As such I am a chronic warfarin patient. I recently had a hysterectomy followed by another emergency surgery the following day. I then recouperated at home. 3 weeks ago I had a stroke. The cardiologist said it was caused by the several surgeries and the neurologist prescribed ecotrin as he felt that warfarin was not enough any longer to protect my heart valves. Since taking ecotrin I have a constant head ache, my eyes are swollen all the times, I feel very tired, I feel depressed, I some evenings have stomach ache, initially I lost weight and suddenly I am picking up weight rapidly. I experience dizziness at times and my eyes feel as if something got stuck behind them. I used to run around 48 kilometres a week before the hysterectomy. I as fit and slim and toned. I am feeling old and overweight and ill and depressed all the time. Is there not another medication that I should rather replace ecotrin with? I have been taking warfarin since 1999 chronically and never experienced such bad side effects.

HI, Sandra! I'm very sorry about the problems that you've been having.

However, your recent symptoms are most likely due to the hysterectomy and not the medication.

It causes an abrupt change in hormones in your body that throws you into immediate menopause and the problems you've described are very typical of menopausal women.

Have you talked to your doctor about them? You may need to do something to help balance your hormones back out.

They all occur with estrogen dominance. Once you are no longer ovulating, your body isn't producing enough progesterone to balance it out in ratio to the estrogen, which you still produce in large quantities, especially with the weight gain you've had, since estrogen is also produced by fat cells.
