Duloxetine, 20 Mg, By Citron

Okay, we all suspect that phthalates are bad for you-- they mess up the reproductive system in lab animals. Cosmetic manufacturers are scrambling to remove them from their products because women are afraid they may be absorbed thru the skin. So why is the FDA allowing this suspect stuff to be in medications you take orally... like the generic Cymbalta (duloxtetine, 20mg) manufactured by Citron??? Especially since the majority of people having problems the drug treats, are women.

The hypromellose phthalate that is listed as an inactive ingredient is an FDA approved excipient. NDC: 57237-0019

While there has been some concern about phthalates, there has been no definitive study proving them to be dangerous, so they are still approved to be used in medications, in limited amounts. It is a case of correlation not equating causation, so their use is likely to continue, unless research is found that definitively proves them to be dangerous. Making changes based on suspicions, and tests that were solely done in lab animals, is generally not financially feasible.

It is always best for everyone to read the full ingredients list of all medications that they take, so they are fully informed, and if they are not comfortable taking something with a phthalates ingredient, they can ask if there is a different product available that doesn't contain it, or they can speak to their doctor about trying an alternative medication.

The full list of inactive ingredients in this product manufactured by Citron include:

Crospovidone
Hydroxypropyl Cellulose (Type H)
Hypromellose 2910 (5 Mpa.s)
Hypromellose Phthalate (24% Phthalate, 55 Cst)
Methylene Chloride
Sucrose
Talc
Titanium Dioxide
Triethyl Citrate
Gelatin
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
Fd&c Blue No. 2
Ferric Oxide Yellow
Ferrosoferric Oxide
Potassium Hydroxide
Propylene Glycol
Shellac
Ammonia

Is anyone currently taking the medication manufactured by Citron?
