although there is a generic pill for almost every drug to modern man. Please tell me why we the general public does not have access to these,but va hospitals hand them out like m&ms. Perhaps somebody has the decency toexplain this to me other than the lawyers of this wonderful country has a stronghold on such products. I doubt that I will here from the fda it will be a lawyer explaining why,I and the rest of the free worl know why MONEY BABY THAT'all. thank you for letting me bore you but let me see if you have the guts to take the time for an answer. thank you once again

Actually, under US law, if a generic is available, your pharmacy is required to make it available to you, unless you, your doctor or your insurance require otherwise.

There are, however, some cases where a generic is not available on the general market, yet, but the VA hospital has access to some that you can not get in retail pharmaceutical locations, this is meant to enable our Veterans to get better health care at less expense to our government.

Such is the case with Detrol, it was only approved in 1998, so there is no regular generic available, yet. The company that first patents a medication has a right to proprietary market for approximately 18 years from when it is first released.

The active ingredient in Detrol is Tolterodine, which is also what the generic name will be once it is available. It is used to treat urinary incontinence and frequency.

Common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and blurred vision.
