Drugs Containing Sodium

I have been told by my Dr that I have stasis dermetitis. I have been put on 1500 mg of sodium per day. I have been on this diet for approximately 3 months and am still struggling with water retention. I also take a lot of meds for pain along with amitiza for constipation, so would like to know if any of the meds I am on contain sodium. I truly count and weight all my food so I do not go over. My heart test came back good and I do not have congestive heart problems. Thank you for any information you can give in this matter.

Hello, Karen! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem that you're having.

I am a CHF patient and already explored this topic with my doctor and additional research on my own, so I can tell you that while some medications contain a trace of sodium, that is all it is, just a trace. You'd have too be taking a lot of them each day for it to even add up to a few milligrams.

That's usually not the regular treatment for this, though. Usually, topical steroid creams and compression stockings are used. Has your doctor had you try them, yet?
