Drug Test For Lyrica Showed Up As Neurontin
UpdatedI take a drug test for my pain doctor. I do NOT use any other meds other than what's subscribed by my pain Dr. The last test test showed up with neurontin in my urine. Please explain how that happened. Again I don't even take any over counter or anything not subscribed to me.
How can neurotin show up in urine test since I haven't taken in 5 years. I take lyrica MS Cotin Soma Xanex and Clondine a chloestral med and infection for this cold or whatever it is. I am worried cos I will get dismissed andni haven't taken anything other then subscribed to me. Help!!!
Nuerotin, gabapentin and lyrica ARE ALL THE exact same medication!!! The first 2 ARE the genetic for of lyrica
This is an irresponsible incorrect answer. Look up " compare contrast neurontin lyrica" you'll see that while they have some similarities there are different drugs. Same way a dog and a wolf are different animals...
What I have found is that lyrica does contain GABA... my question would be because of all the medication I am on for years of pain, DDD, Fibro, broken back and torn spine, PTSD, and that is just the eggs in the batter, are there any drugs other then Neurotin, that can produce the Pre-Gaba that was in my urine, causing a reading of Neurotin?
All I'm asking is does Lyrica show up the same as Gabapentin I ran out of gabapentin and I had a few Lyrica left from when I had insurance will it show up as Lyrica or will it show up as Gabapentin
I take Lyrica also and tested positive for Buprenorphine or suboxone. I am so disgusted by this outcome because I have NEVER taken suboxone. I contacted the maker of Lyrica, Pfizer and referenced some of the posts here. I was on the phone with Pfizer for an hour and a half providing them details about my medications. They will be testing Lyrica to see why this is happening. They asked if I had names or contacts for others affected but I don't. {edited for privacy}. My doctor says I've broken the contract when in fact I have not!
I am on Lyrica and somehow popped positive for morphine of all things on a drug test. This could have cost me 50 months in prison.
Please see my previous post about Lyrica. Pfizer confirmed it can show up as opiates.
Lyrica and nurotin are not the same thing. They are two entirely different drugs. They wrk the same way but are different. They are however cousins to one another.
Re: Peaceburg (# 6)
First your doctor can't say you broke your contract because hipa law protects the patient not the doctor. And second even if you did give names of other patients, if you are not the treating physician or an employee you are not breaking hipa law, the only way you can be liable to upkeep that law for other patients is if you attend a group therapy session and agreed not to share names or details, or if you are in the medical profession and you interact with other patients that way. It sounds like the doctor is trying to cover their mistake by blaming you because you drew attention by contacting the manufacturing company. Any way I hope everything works out okay.
I take lyrica when I have symptoms of fibromyalgia. But I take norco and ibuprofen for my injuries due to fall at work. I take cyclobenaprine for my neck and shoulders test says I took gabapentin. How can i make my dr.understand I don't take gabapentin. It makes me feel like I having a hearttack.
Re: Shirley (# 5)
Lyrica WILL show up on pain management urine tests. They test for it to make sure you are taking it and not doing "other" things with it. So if you are supposed to be taking, make sure its in your system along with any other pain relief meds you might be taking; i.e. lortab, vicodin, percocet, etc.. Hope this helps.
Re: Peaceburg (# 6)
I had something similar happen. I have been going to the same Pain Management practice for 15 yrs. I was injured at work, am an RN worked in Labor and Delivery an High Risk OB. Pushing a labor bed to the OR and herniated L4-L5; L5-S1. surgery, showed nerve damage on the S1 nerve root. I wasn't able to sleep more than 2 hours at a time until I started it. I also take Dilaudid, Soma antd Elavil. The nurse practitioner told me I failed my drug test. She said it showed Fentanyl and Ultram. I am only familiar with dilaudid, we used it for pain management s/p c-section. I am familiar with fentanyl, the Anesthesia dept is the only ones permitted to use it. Fentanyl is an anesthetic not an analgesic (pain reliever: tylenol, morphine, ibuprophen etc.) In the hospital it only comes in a liquid injectable. Patients who are given it are put on a vent and are monitored very closely. It doesn't take away pain, it puts patients to sleep. It also comes in a patch. My pain management physician prescribed the patch probably in 2005 or so. I started to itch soon after I put it on. Since I already have 4 allergies and am very sensitive to many medication, he felt that I was developing an allergy to fentanyl, or to the adhesive (as an RN I am more to latex allergies) so he discontinued it. I had been given Ultram by the Workman's comp NP, and it made loopy and feeling out of my body. I would not take it again if someone paid me to. I was shocked that I failed the drug test, like I said I have been a patient there for 15 years. I know the lab mixed it up somehow. I am a married middle age mother of three. I wouldn't know where to get drugs, and as an RN I would be terrified of using fentanyl, I have never injected anything into my body except heparin and my Rheumatoid Arthritis medicine. If I wanted to try fentanyl again, I would just tell my physician that I wanted to try it again, not purchase it illegally. I only drink maybe twice a year when we go out to dinner to celebrate my birthday and my husbands. I don't smoke and certainly don't do drugs.
The NP also said I tested + for gabapentin. I told her that I don't take Neurontin/gabapentin, I take Lyrica (pregabalin). She said that Lyrica shows up in a drug test as gabapentin. I want to know if that is true. I don't know how to prove that the drug test is NOT mine. I feel that I can prove it's not mine if Lyrica shows up as pregabalin and not gabapentin. It's such an awful feeling, somehow the lab made a mistake, I know that I don't take anything that is not ordered. How do I prove this?
Re: JKas (# 1)
If I'm correct Lyrica and neurotin show up as the same. It should be ok.
Just to let you know, there are alot of pain doctors saying that you failed your drug test. If you've been with the same doctor for along time, they do this so they can dismiss you as a patient so they have room for new patients. I've had this happen to several people I know. These people have even taken in clean urine and put the medicine they take in the clean urine so they test positive for what they are prescribed. Doctors are getting to where they only care about money and numbers, not there patients.
Re: Meli78 (# 2)
Neurontin and gabapentin are the same medication. Lyrica is a stronger, sister drug, to Neurontin. They should both show up as Neurontin on a drug screen.
Can gabipentian and lycria come up the same in a drug screen
Re: Peaceburg (# 6)
There is no possibility that Lyrica will test positive for suboxone. I'm on methadone and if that was even possible I would be in rapid withdrawal 24 hours a day. Be honest with yourself.
Re: Shirley (# 5)
It depends on the test. My pain management doctor’s lab is so specific it can tell the difference in benzos. I don’t remember if they have a separate line for lyrica and one for Gabapentin, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

You are incorrect, gabapentin is the generic of neurotic. Lyrica is actually in the same family but not the same medication and in my experience much stronger
Re: JKas (# 1)
Does Lyrica and gabapentin show up as the same thing on a drug screen?
Re: Peaceburg (# 6)
Are you sure the doctor or nurse didn't make some kind of mistake it happened to me once the nurse said I was positive for opioids I do not take opioids I knew it was wrong told her it was impossible she looked at the paperwork again and realized she was wrong
Re: Shirley (# 5)
I have same question, did you ever get a answer?
Re: Ken (# 20)
I think it depends on the specific test. Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, whereas Gabapentin is the active ingredient in Neurontin. They are prescribed for similar reasons. You might find this article from PharmacyTimes helpful, though it is a bit technical: How Gabapentin Differs From Pregabalin
