antibotics that cause tendon detachments
4 Replies
I have had several courses of levaquin, most recently about a year ago. I am noticing a sore Achilles tendon, which has become worse in the last few weeks. Can this be from levaquin? Is there any treatment? Are any treatments being tried? What is the nature of this injury?
Yes, you should definitely stop taking the drug and contact your doctor immediately. Be aware that there are many drugs in the same class of drugs known as the Fluoroquinolone antibiotics that your doctor may try to prescribe in place of the Levaquin- please do not let him. If you have had a reaction to one of the Quinolone Antibiotics, then you should avoid taking any of the drugs in this class- FOREVER. Do not make the mistake of taking these drugs again.

I have taken 3 levaquin 500 mg pills over 3 days (1 a day) I did not take one today, noticing discomfort in my achilles tendon area in one leg. How scared should I be? I will not take anymore. Should I do anything (doctor)?
Any advice appreciated.
All of the Quinolone Antibiotics can lead to tendon rupture, tendon damage or tendon detachments.
These antibiotics include:
Cipro
Levaquin
Avelox
Moxifloxacin
Ofloxacin
Floxin
or any other antibiotics that end in -floxin
-oxacin
