Dr Who Accepts Medicaid In Nj For Methadone (Top voted first)
UpdatedJust recently got medicaid in nj and have been on methadone maintainence for 10 years . All of the clinics have waiting lists that are over 6th long for new medicaid patients. Was wondering if anyone knows of a Dr that would prescribe methadone and if medicaid would pay for it. Just lost my job a couple months ago and I can't afford to keep paying cash. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Paprika,
I've been on it for 22 years and people like me may fill your next Rx at the local mom and mom drug store you use to fill your opiate pain Rx's you claim you need. Pretty insulting huh? Well *****s like you should research the info you spout off. I also attend NA AND AA meetings and attend therapy addition to methadone. Some addicts have a genetic predisposition that requires a measured dose of methadone to allow them function normally. Methadone detox was designed for short term use, maintenance for LONG TERM USE, get some 411 before you shame others on here for doing what's right for them. BTW INSURANCE COVERS MY MMT AT THE CLINIC. I'm even a licensed pharmacy technician.
Hello, April! How are you?
I'm sorry, but a regular doctor cannot prescribe it for you, it would be illegal for them to do so. For addiction and maintenance, it can only be given in a clinical setting by those that have been specially trained in its use for such. Thus, a clinic is your only option.
The FDA classifies this as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Nj sub Dr. That takes medicaid ??? On methadone can't afford anymore
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the methadone clinics have stopped taking medicaid in NY. The reason you have such a long wait is because the clinics do not encourage people to get off methadone maintenance. Currently here in Suffolk County NY, there is a wait time of over a year since there are already 2500 people waiting their turn to get on. NJ, NY, pay some of the highest taxes in the nation and this is the best they can do. ALSO, no doctor will take any kind of insurance, whether it be the best of the best or simple medicaid. THEY WON'T DO IT. To me they are the same scum as the illicit drug dealer is. They want cash only, and as if that wasn't bad enuff, they charge anywhere from 250-550 for the first time you walk in. How these people have a conscience is a wonder to me. That is only for a weeks worth of suboxone. Then you go back the 2nd week and you pay half price for either another week or maybe they'll give you for the rest of the month. The next month's visit is usually half of what you paid for the first time. By the way, these doctors only took an 8 hour course to take the exam to write out for suboxone.
10 years are you kidding, and my tax dollars are paying for it. The purpose of methadone originally was for short term use to get off opiates. Obviously you are abusing it if you have been on it for 10 years. Go to AA/NA meetings.
Re: Paprika (# 6)
i hope someone in your family or maybe one of your kids has to deal with this so you can see FIRST HAND what it does to an individual AND families and that no one asks for this...Then you can tell your own kid just "Go to Meetings"
