Doxycycline Causing Confusion

My mother suffers from dementia. She was prescribed doxycycline for a uti. She has been feeling very confused since taking this. Could this be causing her confusion?

The FDA does list this antibiotic as having been known to cause some odd mental effects in the elderly, it is also known that elderly people more prone to experiencing side effects from most medications. UTIs have also been known to sometimes cause such symptoms in the elderly.

Thus, it could be either one, or it may be unrelated. It would likely be best to check with her doctor to be sure.
