Antibiotics will not do anything to treat a cold, they are only effective at treating bacterial infections and colds are caused by a viral infection, so if it was prescribe, it was most likely for the sinus infection.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
