Hi ash,
Sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim does not contain any penicillin; nor is it derived from penicillin. It's actually a sulfonamide. So as long as you aren't also allergic to sulfa drugs, there shouldn't be any problems in my opinion.
Additionally, my thoughts are that if the doctor was already aware of your allergy to penicillin, he/she probably wouldn't make the mistake of prescribing something that was related to it. Although it is good that you took the time to check because mistakes do happen.
