Does Subutex Have Sulfa In It
(Newest replies first)

I have been on suboxone for around 2 months in the beginning it made me very sick for a week and now all of a sudden I am getting flushed on my neck and chest my skin itches and feels like it's on fire and my cheeks and hands swell it subsides slightly by the next morning but comes back in full effect after I take it again, my Dr says it's probably not a reaction to suboxone but I can't see it being anything else. I'm allergic to sulfa as well. Can anyone help

@Amber,
According to the FDA, Subutex sublingual tablets (from Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals) contain the following set of inactive ingredients:
lactose + mannitol + cornstarch + povidone K30 + citric acid + sodium citrate + magnesium stearate
Ref: fda.gov/downloads/Drugs/DrugSafety/UCM285300.pdf
I'm not seeing anything "sulfa" related on that list, so it sounds like you should be in the clear as far as that's concerned. However I would still recommend checking each list of inactive ingredients depending on which manufacturer you end up getting, since different manufacturers may use slightly different ingredients.
At any rate, it looks like Cat's already addressed the rest of your post, so I'll go ahead and leave my response at that.
Hope this helps!
Yes, Suboxone can make you very sick. Doctors don't know what they are taking about half the time. I was started on Suboxone and was on it for.several months. I was always nauseated and I could not digest any solid food. I lived on jarred baby food and nutrition drinks for nine months. All the time I kept asking if they Suboxone was causing it.and my addictionologist doctor with the fancy degrees insisted it had to be from something else.
I eventually switched doctors and the new one key me try subutex instead of suboxone (Subutex doesn't have naloxone in it). Almost overnight the nausea disappeared and in a week I could eat normally again, though my digestion was still slow from the subutex. They will both cause constipation too.
People are always saying "ask your doctor" but it has been my experience that many of them think they know everything when they are really clueless. Insist on trying plain buprenorphine (Subutex) instead. They don't like to prescribe it because it can be abused more easily than suboxone. But you should not have to suffer because of a doctor's ignorance.
