Does Amoxicillin Liquid Go Bad With Age (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy son still has two bottles of amoxicillin liquid that has not been opened or used since the pharmacist made it. How long will it last if kept in the fridge

Amoxicillin is a fungus. If anything it gets better with age. Don't listen to these shills. I've taken penicillin from 07 in 14 - worked like a charm. They want u to finish it, want u to spend more money, they lecture u about resistant bacteria, but dead up, if u have an infection, no money, & old amoxicillin, TAKE IT. Not going to do s*** but clear up ur infection. I've done it more times than I can count. If it was stored in a shed over 90 degrees - not going to work. If it was found in the bottom of your purse under a pile of socks in ur air conditioned 72 degree closet- good as new.

Pharmacist says as long as it’s in the fridge, the worst case scenario is it’s not as strong
In general, DO NOT try to use the prescriptions of liquid forms of ANY medication after they have expired. This of course will HIGHLY depend if it was reconstituted, and it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to know it's reconstituted stability at certain temperatures, since temperatures can be CRITICAL to the safety of reconstituted medicine! There is a higher risk of liquid medications developing dangerous effects past expiration (or even before expiration at some temperatures). It is VERY different having a liquid medication vs a tablet or capsule. I completely endorse the safety of taking expired AMOX caps or tabs, but not liquid. If a liquid is a few days or maybe even a week past the expiration, CALL A PHARMACIST- free advice from someone who is often much more qualified than any MD regarding medications.
BTW, that is absolutely horrible advice from Mesonoxia, who obviously was referring to a personal experience with something other than reconstituted medicine. I highly doubt someone would take a reconstituted liquid seven years past expiration that should be refrigerated. Once something is reconstituted, it changes the stability of that medication at certain temperatures. Some reconstituted medicines that are commonly given to children can become dangerously toxic if left even at room temperature.

BTW it sound to me as she knows and is talking about the very same medicine, refer penn she knows it is/was a refrigerator stored med.
Chemistry tells us that molecules in some expired medication could undergo further chemical reactions and produce undesired effects.
They give you a huge bottle and after 10 days there can be plenty left over. Pay attention to the question and dont think youre a genius cuz you tell somebody something everybody knows.
Re: MOLLY (# 10)
If refrigerated it will be conserved! If not, it’s worth trying until you can get to the doctor's appointment.
I used it as directed and gave it to him for the 10 days. It was left over. We usually only get one to two bottles but we were given three this time! I believe in finishing all medication as directed on the bottle!! :-)
I was just wondering where the expiration date is???
Hi, Amanda! How are you?
Yes, antibiotic suspensions start to lose their efficacy once expired and taking an antibiotic that is not fully effective can be dangerous, since it creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Such liquids are only good for 7 to 21 days, depending on the type.

Why didn't your son finish the medication? Unless his doctor instructs otherwise, an antibiotic should always be finished to make sure that the infection is fully eradicated and to help prevent the development of the antibiotic resistant bacteria that I mentioned.
I have a stomach feeding tube and I got 5 bottles of liquid Augment December 15th of 2016. I only had to take 3 bottles of it for my sinus and ear infection's. Well now I have another sinus infection and today is February 21st 2017. It says on the bottles that the antibiotic is good until December 2017. I went to use it today and the Medication is Brown. Is it still safe to use? I can't afford to go back to the doctor and try to get more Medication.
