Does Amoxicillin Go Bad With Age? (Page 2)

I bought 100 amoxicillin caps about 3 years ago and stored them in a dark place and I was curious if they would still be good to take.
what about some i had prescribed for bad teeth that will be gone soon would its weakened form still be enough to hold it off for a few months and they arent quite a year old yet
So many wimpy people out there. If you've been sick awhile and the doctors aren't helping. Yes take it!
KRISTEN, Maybe you should brush up your facts a bit before putting your ENTIRE RUDE FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH! You can purchase large bottles of Amoxicillian in some countries. People purchase the larger bottles at much lower prices to have them around during the year for general infections.. I just purchased a bottle of 200 for only $5.50 when I traveled abroad.
Wow it is good to be educated I had no idea taking leftover amoxicillin could lead to evolved bacteria and diseases like MRSA
So, in the name of frugality you would risk yourself a bigger, antibiotic resistant infection? The longer you have these drugs the less effective they become. The infection builds a resistance to these drugs if they are not delivered in the proper dosage. Unless you went to medical school and graduated, I suggest you leave your opinions to yourself, and the medical advice for the properly educated, and licensed people to dispense.
I think that's very cool that you are 11, and read up on things like this!
I have about 30Amoxicllin capsules left. They are a little over 2 years old. Can i take them now ?
I am really sick. Had a cold for a week and now I am getting bronchitis. Have no insurance. Can I take amoxicillin from 2005, 11 years after the fact? Your help is appreciated.
I my self just finished a coarse full of amoxicillin and went to the doc again and her prescribed me more and can't afford another $20 yet my husband has a prescription from 2011 just not sure if it's okay or not to take
I wish people would just answer the question instead of becoming God and throwing in their unwanted "opinions". TY I am also interested in this question's answer . If a capsule "A 45" does loose potency..how much how long?
So you mean to tell me that these big pharmaceutical company throw out all their stock of antibiotics one year after they make them????
Finally someone actually answered the question – thanks.
I too have leftover Amox. Knee replacements require me to take 4 x 500mg capsules an hour before dental cleanings or fillings, crowns etc..
Doc prescribed sufficient for cleaning and follow up fillings, if necessary, which weren't.
Know-it-alls and ragers, please zip it so that questioners can get real answers.
I can tell you why I have left over Amox. A dentist prescribed it to me to take 4- 500MG before dental work but I did not need as many visits so have 8 of them left over. I have had Dr's. switch to different antibiotics mid course leaving some on my shelf. Having left over antibiotic often does not mean that you failed to take properly.
For those people that question why you would have amoxicillin "sitting around" in your medicine cabinet, there are various reasons other than an immediate infection for which it is used. Anyone who has had a hip replacement requires pre-dental appointment prophylaxis with amoxicillin. Often the doctor will prescribe enough to get you through a number of appointments, especially if you are having a dental issue, such as a root canal treatment. Also, people with cardiac issues, such as a ventricular septal defect will require prophylactic dental treatment. Hope this helps to clear up some concerns! BTW, I am an RN and, also, have had bother hips replaced!
Hey number 18, this place wasn't made to slander video games. Take it to the Video Game Hater's forum. Nobody should ever take medication that has been prescribed to them in any other manner, intake method (oral, intramuscular/subcutaneous injection, patch, inhalation, topical, etc), or dosage that was prescribed. Any medication left over should be destroyed, unless it is over the counter in nature and not yet expired. Self diagnosing should only be considered if you are a trained healthcare professional, and even in that case you should still seek outside care as your own judgement may impede your ability to treat yourself. Never take medications that are prescribed for someone else, expired, designed to treat a condition you do not have, etc. You will only make things worse for yourself and put unnecessary strain on your healthcare system.
However you are SUPPOSED TO TAKE the full course of the antibiotics when they are prescribed to you in order to prevent and treat the same infection from occurring again. Some antibiotics treat different things. So if you are taking amoxicillian for a bladder infection, it won't work
First of all why do you have to be rude? Either answer the question or don't. It's none of your business why.
Why does it matter what someone has around for 3 yrs !! Just answer the ?
I have amoxicillin 875 mg it says discard after 10/2014 is this amoxicillin still good to take?
Not everyone has medical insurance & most places here wont see you without it. Some ppl who are next to being homeless dont have many options so they have to do what they
