Hi, I just got these new antibiotics. I use to get amoxicillin but this time I got amox clav 875. I'm using it for strep throat. Is that right? Or should I have been prescribed something else. My tonsil feels extremely itchy and I have been coughing a lot more. I'm wondering if I should get it switched. When does amox clav kick in? This is just my first day.

Amox Clav is Amoxicillin with added Clavulanic Acid to help it work better, the brand name for it is Augmentin.
It is an antibiotic and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
The general rule for antibiotics to see if they are working for you is there should be no worsening of your condition after taking them for a full 24 hours and you should see improvement after taking the for a full 72 hours.

I've been taking amox clav 875-125 for 48hrs now to treat strep. It is NOT working. I feel worse not better. My neck is so sore I can barely turn in either direction. My throat is so sore swallowing liquids is painful. This medicine may work for other diagnosis but in my opinion it does NOT work for strep.
