Why do people need Percocet/oxycodone? I have been reading a lot of posts and I see people Dr. shopping. In order to get pain meds/narcotics/controlled substances, you must go to a licensed Pain Clinic. You have to sign a pain contract, take a U/A every two months and can only get your pain meds from your Pain Clinic. Family doctors, family medical practices and even Sports medicine Centers as well only prescribed Percocet for a very short period of time. An example is when I get a tooth pulled I get 17 Percocet which is enough to last for five days and then your tooth should be healed. I don’t suggest that you keep Dr. shopping because it will catch up with you. What I’m suggesting for these people that I’m reading about is a substance abuse counselor and sessions to control their want and need for unnecessary pain meds. We are in an epidemic of pain medications being taken illegally and it has to stop. People are dying every day from overdosing on pain meds. My pain management clinic requires me to have Narcan on hand just in case I take too many meds. But if you’re smart and are doing everything by the book you won’t ever need to use the Narcan, as it is for overdose situations.
