Doctors That Prescribe Adhd Medications (Top voted first)
UpdatedI need a Doctor that will prescribe adderall or other ADHD medications in Portland, OR. I had a script before I moved here, but no luck finding a doctor that will let me have my script again. I really need this medication. I do not abuse it, but recently I've had a terrible time with Care Oregon. I'm willing to pay out of pocket, but some psychiatrists still will not even take an appointment with me bc I'm in the system under Care Oregon. In Arkansas, it was no problem. I had medicaid. My medicade was smoothed over due to the affordable care bs and it has been a year of red tape. I'm moving back to California and I am sure it will be very difficult there as well. Anyone know what I should do? I am thinking that I should schedule an appointment with a private practice and NOT tell them that I'm covered. I just need someone who will listen to me and not write me off as a "seeker."

You're probably better off asking your original doc to state IN WRITING that you've been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or Narcolepsy and he prescribed Adderall 20mg TID, let's say. You responded well and he is providing this later at your request in order to avoid miscommunication during the initial visit. "If you have any questions, feel free to call me at..." I've provided letters like this before. Only one called — and that was understandable since the kid was 14 and Adderall 30mgIR TID IS a large dose, it's what was needed. This kid was "off-the-hook" (I also prescribed a few major tranquilizers, including 200mg of Thorazine at hs, something I haven't done in years. Make a couple of copies and take the signed original to your new doc..) Good luck!
Do you have a PCP in your new location, yet?
If not, getting set up with one of them and then having them refer you to the appropriate doctor would likely be the easiest way of finding the help you need.
As to paying cash, since this medication can be habit forming and is frequently abused, most doctors will not prescribe it to a cash paying patient, that's why you're being turned away, if they don't accept your insurance.
Got that right. In 25 years, only one patient has paid cash — and I think I had him on Tofranil and Ambien. He had forgotten his checkbook. I said, "We'll square up next time." This was a very affluent man who had been my patient for years. "Y'all still take cash, Doc?" I smiled and said I probably couldn't change a $500 bill. My fee was $275/session and he paid me for that week and next week — in cash. This was a patient with a long relationship. Come to me or any ethical doc with cash in your hands and "Adderall" on your lips and you'll get nothing except from the most corrupt docs who have skated — until NOW — or the most naive of the newer physicians. I've called two scripts for C-II med written in good faith by my residents, but my jaundiced eye detected a scam and I was right.
Doctors need records and a check page is the best proof of payment. Just because you don;t have insurance doesn't mean the pt can't pay by Check or Money Order. Records! Records for taxes, records of patient visits, etc. Don;t tell me that an uninsured patient can't open a checking account.
So what if people pay cash. 25 million people don't have insurance = cash. Saying anyone using money is running a scam is naive and harmful. Shame
Dear ginger, my name is linda & I'm not from where u r but I can honestly say getting a prescription for Adderall has never been a problem no matter where I'm living at the time. I've found that as long as u give the doctor the name & info of the doc u were seeing b4 u moved there & let them know that uve been taking ADD meds since u were a kid, but not Adderall (idk how old u r but when I was a kid all they had was Ritalin which is pretty much the same thing.) Also if u r truly ADD usually they can tell just from tlking to u for a Lil bit, it's usually not to hard to find a doc to write for u. Hope this was helpfull! Peace, & good luck!
I'm in Arkansas (hot springs area) and can't find a doctor anywhere to continue my RX. I've been on it 6 years. Where did you go?
I ran into that in NH because our medicaid was managed care.
I guess if a provider takes Medicaid, but not one of the managed care policies, if they see and bill a medicaid patient they can lose their ability to see Medicaid patients.
It’s insane, but yeah, the only way around hat would be to pretend you don’t have insurance.
I hate to sound rude . But you are using age old tactics in your attempt to scare and judge people by saying that a Dr. will not prescribe to a cash paying patient as they know the drug is addictive and might be abused. . What an awful thing to say and since it is UNTRUE, that makes it even worse. Great use of fear tactics to keep anyone that (God Forbid) might actually use the medicine as directed. Just Google what your looking for and they will be able Any general practice can issue the prescription . The possible trouble you might of been having finding a Dr that will help you when you only have medicare since a lot of Dr's do not accept it. I hope the best of luck for you as I am also on Adderal and it has been a lifesaver.
You’re going to need a referral to a psychiatrist for ADHD or Adderall. It is considered a controlled substance and very hard to get. You must be diagnosed with ADHD and referred by your school, or your work. You will have to go monthly to be assessed and talk to, they do have a synthetic non-stimulating medication out used for children. In North Carolina 14% of Children between the ages of seven and 14 have ADHD and are seeing a shrink; most of them are on Ritalin and this changes their whole personality. So before you go get on Ritalin which a lot of people used recreationally, check out the more Homeopathic form that they have out. Best to you.
