Doctors Negligence
UpdatedIve been taking methadone since 2005 for chronic pain. Ive recently developed 2 other painful health conditions that cause great pain however my current doctor refuses to prescribe what ive been prescribed before. He will give me 90 pills a month sometimes 45 depends on his mood. Im not even getting adequate pain relief as i was being prescrbed 120 before. Had to change doctors cuz of insurance purposes. I dont know what to do. He also has let me walk around for the last 2 yrs with chronically torn liagaments in my right and left ankle. I begged for a mri and finally got one after 2 yrs showing i have severe damage some liagaments are no longer visible. Yet he thinks im lying about being in pain. Is this legal? Can he really put a patient off that long? I can no longer walk normally if i can walk at all someday he has even with held the info from the mri i got the report and read it myself he told me i had some fluid on my ankles. It just.seems pretty negligent to.me so i thought i get another opinion. Thanks in advance

Hello, Shelby! How are you doing? I am very sorry that you're in pain.
As to prescribing the medications, your doctor isn't obligated to prescribe anything and due to new regulations that were put in place last year, unless you have intractable pain due to a terminal condition, such as stage 4 cancer, he is limited on how much he can prescribe.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
And no, that wouldn't be considered negligence, either. The reason for that is because he also isn't required to treat you, at all, unless your life is in immediate danger.
Have you considered seeing a different doctor and getting another opinion?
