Doctors In Rhode Island Prescribing Methadone

In 2006 i broke my neck and was paralized from the neck down, 10 days later had spinal surgery and luckily my paralisis was able to be reversed.i was prescribed methadone FOR PAIN RELIEF. When my script ran out i went to my doctor only to find out he dosn`t deal with methadone prescriptions,was told to go back to surgeon who initially prescribed it and was told he couldnt help me because he was only my surgeon not my primary. I was given vicodin for next couple of years which never helped me with the pain i suffer with consantly from my accident. Finally 3 years ago i decided to go to a methadone clinic so i could get relief from my daily pain.i have a perfect clean record at my clinic i have take home statis have never had a dirty UA and just today my counselor told me i should go to a pain doctor to get a srcipt for methadone pills since it is pain relief i am taking it for. I thought once ive gone to a methadone clinic no doctor could prescribe it for me .is that true even though i was given methadone the first time for pain relief not drug abuse? Is there any chance a doctor can prescribe it in pills for me. I live in rhode island. I am on 70 mg liquid now and was on 30 mg pills origionally when i broke my neck. Sorry this is soooo. long but i was trying to mention everything i could think of. With my history would i qualify for methadone pills and if so what doctor should i see to get it. I also need the name of a primary care doctor who treats people who are on methadone. So many doctors have such a problem treating people on methadone because of the stigma attached to it. Please help with any info possible. Thank you

Hi Gia! I live in RI and I know a name of a Dr who precribes methadone 4 my brother 4 pain. I don't know if he's accepting new patients. But, u can try. Yes, you are correct, there is a very slim chance of any doctor taking you on, due to the fact that you went to the addiction clinic. They aren't allowed to prescribe it for that and with that noted in your medical records, the law basically ties their hands on the matter.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I'm a chronic pain patient currently on suboxone and have been on suboxone since 2003. I was taking two daily and cut myself down to less than a half daily, so I'm basically weaning myself down to almost nothing. Suboxone is not for chronic pain patients, I don't understand why she won't put me on methadone 10mg twice daily. I've been though two major surgeries within the past six months and prior to those two surgeries, when i was younger i had eight surgeries and I am in chronic pain. Can anyone tell me of a doctor in the Providence Rhode Island area (or even further out like Massachusetts, etc)? I would appreciate some help.
