Doctor Office Checking Dea Site

Can a doctor's office in California check the DEA pharmacy site to see that you used 2 doctors for a med of 2 different strengths and deny refills? Does HIPPA Law protect my privacy or not?

HIPAA mainly protects your privacy in respect to other non-medical entities, it does not prevent you from being added to the DEA database, nor does it prevent a doctor from checking said databases, or sharing information with another medical professional.

For instance, your spouse, or your boss cannot call your doctor and be told information on your medical conditions, diagnosis, medications and etc., unless you give express permission.

However, when you agree to become a doctor's patient, agree to their privacy policy and sign consent, you are acknowledging that they have access to your medical records, including prescription information.

You can find the full details on HIPAA on the U.S. Heath and Human Services site, they go into great detail on it.

Is there anything else I can help with?
