Dipipanone And Cyclizine Tablets
UpdatedCan anyone explain why, after the brand Diconal was discontinued, the price of the remaining generic (by Sovereign, although the tablets are exactly the same and still manufactured by Amdipharm!) is almost ten times the cost of the opriginal brand? Surely brand is always the more expensive option no matter what the drug concerned might be?

Can anyone confirm or deny whether the cost of the South African brand of Dipipanone and cyclizine, WELLCONAL, has risen in price as has the UK tablet since DICONAL was discontinued and turned over to Sovereign as a generic? Can anyone tell me ANYTHING about the current state of the DIPIPANONE hydrochloride market? Which Chinese API manufacturers offer it, as it may well be far cheaper to buy the API than the criminally increased price of the UK tablets. And why has not a single person replied to this question?
Re: Minoguesque (# 1)
Hi, I've been on Diconal since 1993, regular scripts being met via local Boots. Every so often there's a break in supply, last one 18 months - 2 years back, eventually back on track until Now. Was informed by a pharmacist that Boots warehouses are exhausted. Last time Duke turned 'off' was 'offered' Tramadol but then scripted Codeine in its place, which was useless. This time have heard nothing from doctors. So, from latest 56 tabs per week to: nothing. Reason for script: multiple pains from bodily damage/wreckage of my body from RTA May 1986. Other problems emanating from same now developed so I find myself just left with no pain prevention although matters now multiplied over what they were. So - looking for a doctor to prescribe Oxycontin or Tramadol or..... any suggestions, or is the current scarcity again temporary?
Re: Minoguesque (# 1)
The Asian partners who bought the licence from Amdipharm and then went into eventual production hiking the price from £50 to now nearly £500 per box of 50/cost to NHS, went public when they declared they were in it solely to make profit from the product.
Absolutely outrageous. Not far off what dealers used to make flogging them on the black market. They are still around cos I still get them each week on script. Script started in 91 to attempt to deal with the pain from RTA injuries received in 86.
