Dilaudid Pain Pump (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I would like to talk to anyone who has a pain pump with Dilaudid. My mother has a pain pump and I am worried she will be on it for the rest of her life. She has had the pump for many years and I feel it has affected her greatly. She had to have all her teeth pulled because they were rotting and she also has a problem with her tongue burning and red all the time. I am worried she will never get off the pain pump because she is addicted... she also falls asleep all the time even while you are talking to her. Thanks for any advice.
Teresa.

Teresa, I appreciate your concern for your mother welfare, however I will share with you that I am 76 years of age and after 6 back surgeries and told I needed a 9 hr. back surgery etc., because of my age and serious health problem, they recommended Medtronic pain pump. I'll cut short now by telling you I had come to the place of using 10g. Fentynal patches and 10mg. Hydrocodone and after several more years I could not get relief and was in chronic pain almost all time. The pain pump is next to a miracle for me and I have no reason to think of getting off, however If your mother is a lot younger there may be concern because of the possible need to increase the doss which can cause a real problem. Unless she gets release of pain w/o it I would see no reason to remove. Med's. Having to go through the stomach and intestines caused me trouble. So far the only problem I see is with constipation and I have problems with dry patches on legs and arms that looks inflamed at times. I have had three different battles with cancer which I believe could be causing that because I got the pump shortly before diagnoses of the cancer. I hope this helps. Writeif you feel I might be of further help. Jina

I have the same pump. I too lost all of my teeth. I am currently in the process of having them decrease my doses to slowly wean me so I can have the pump removed. I have had too many problems in the past 3 years and it hurts so bad where it is in my abdomen. Not to mention the side effects from the meds. I have severe inflammation around the pump and it feels as if there are knots forming. Now I find out that once it is removed they leave the catheter in the spine. I was not told this on the beginning so I am not happy. My pump contains dilaudid and bivipuvine. I have had many issues from the first day so I am having it removed. I now have no teeth and feel worse than before.

It can take many trails i was lucky only two trails but when they installed the pump they started me at half the rate which worked well and then will only up the rate 15% every two weeks until they get the correct amount for your pain level but be sure to remember pain is your friend it lets you know when something is wrong so be sure to keep a little pain just incase you will be able to know if you have further difficulties. Good Luck and God Bless

Re: CJK (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

The Pump has given me a much better quality of life than the oral(and Fentinyl patches) that I had to use for 7 years prior to pump being put in. It does not however come without it's own side effects, getting it regulated can be tricky. Also I have now developed severe bouts of edema in my legs. But in all things considered the pump has been my slvation! Best wishes

I have had my pain pump with Dilaudid and Bropivicain for two years now. It affects you completely different from oral pain meds. I NEVER feel high or drowsy.I have my pump for chronic pain. I thank God everyday that I found this Dr. I was on just about every opioid for the last 15-20 years, those drugs affected me greatly. I would never drive on them. NOW I feel normal with just small pain, when I don't need to have surgery that's another story. It don't really help with surgical pain. Good luck

Check with different medical drug supply companies.. some charge more for Dilauted than others. check with your insurance, or medicaid if you qualify. you do need a doctor for it, to fill your pump.

Narcotics don't affect your organs from what I've read. They have looked at cadavers of people who took them for long periods of time and there was no organ damage. That doesn't mean they aren't harmful at all, I really don't know. I'm not an expert, so please just take this as hearsay, but I don't think you have to worry about Dilaudid killing you. The Tylenol they put in Percoset is bad for the liver if more than 4000mg per day is taken. The oxycodone itself doesn't harm the liver like this. Why they put the acetaminophen is a mystery to me. It's not like addicts are going to care how much Tylenol is in their Percoset. But that's what docs want to prescribe.

I had my pump put in this past may. My doctor has me on moriphine. I have been going through mild to severe withdrawals since the initial surgery. I was on oral meds of every kind for 10 years prior to the pump. Mydoctor has given me minimal oral medication while finding the right dosage for me. It has been a difficult transition and I really dont have a support system. Does anyone know what the average mlg per day of morphine is? This is having such a negative affect on my life that depression is starting to affect me also.

I have recently been given Dilaudid 2mg that are an orange type colour with a capital "P" on one side but nothing on the other.
I usually look up my drugs before I take them, and all I can seem to find is orange in colour ones that a large "P" on one side and a 2 on the other.
Just wondering why mine say P without a 2, but when I research it it states a P on one side and 2 on the other.
Pharmacy is closed for the night so I'm hoping someone can answer this for me as I'm a chronic pain patient and worried to try this new drug because of researching it. Thanks.

It Serms as if the medication you're getting through your pump is more than your body can handle and that's why your constantly sick.

The Zofran bad patch behind the ear should help. If you're still sick you were giving the punk prematurely. Before getting it you should have been in a certain amount if narcotics and then shrub you fit the pump abc the meds administered directly into your body should not have been a problem.

Were you takin the narcotics orally as prescribed prior to getting the pump?

Sadly it seems like you might not have been (your doctor could have seen that if he checked your drug levels) so your pump was out in prematurely (it's a nice chunk of change for the doctors for this procedure).

Hood you germ better soon.

Maybe they should tend the pump out and just have you on oral oral pain meds.

diluad doest affect your stomach or liver from what I have been told from a few doctors, because of the fact that its not going threw your mouth it bypasses those areas and goes straight into ur blood stream. so I don't think u have to worry about that.
