Dilaudid Alternative

I just had lumbar surgery at L5-S1and with that chronic nerve pain. My Dr precscibed dilaudid which works great for me however it causes me severe constipation. The stool softners and laxatives just don't work. It takes me HOURS to complete a bowel movement and that in itself cause more pain. Is there a substitute for dilaudid that won't cause such constipation?

Constipation can be a side effect of all narcotic opiate pain medications, unfortunately.

I frequently had problems with it, when I was on them.

Have you tried adding a fiber supplement?

That was what I found worked best to solve the problem and taking it regularly helped me to stay regular, as well.
