Dilantin Levels

i take 300mg of dilantin a day have been seizure free for 14 years

but recently i have been worried about seizures obsessivly and making myself dizzy and sick

my levels for 14 years have always been low like 4.7 and 3.7

my last ER visit 3 days ago they were 2.5

today my DR upped my dose to 400mg a day

he said it would also help with the obssive thinking

anyone heard of this or think its a good a good idea



also what causes my dilantin level too keep dropping

Has your doctor provided you with any other information?

If you were taking the same dosage for a long period of time, it is completely normal for your body to eventually get used to it and for it to not be as effective for you, which may explain why levels keep dropping and why your doctor raised your dosage.

And yes, these antiseizure medications have been shown to also be effective as mood stabilizers for many people.
