Diazepam Ingredients

I was told by a "Health Nut", that "Benadryl" was a great alternative to Valium, but non addicting, is this true because my step mother suffered with a Massive frontal lobe stroke, and she has recently has been having kicking and screaming fits because she doesn't get her way. And my father is a 72 year old Navy Veteran, that has just had a 1/3 of his kidney removed. Please tell me im not hurting her giving her Benadryl.

Benadryl contains the active ingredient Diphenhydramine, it is an antihistamine that's used to treat allergic reactions, prevent nausea/vomiting and to induce drowsiness. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weigh gain. So yes, it can have a calming affect.

However, as to whether or not you're hurting her, I really can't say. That depends on her overall health and what other medications she takes.

Benadryl can interact with some other medications and may be contraindicated with some health conditions.

What other medications does she take?

Is her doctor aware that you're giving it to her?
