Dextroamp Amphet Er 20mg Cap

I am an adult with ADD. I've done very well with Vyvanse 50 for past 5 yrs. but new insurance formulary won't pay for this. The nearest substitute I can find is dextroamp-amphet and I'm told that 20mg twice daily or 20mg + 10mg mid afternoon should be equivalent. Don't think I can get both rx'd per month. Can I split a 20mg ER cap? Will this cause a huge crash? I found Vyvanse very smooth and insomnia was seldom a problem. Thanks.

No, you can't split the ER ones, since they are time released. Doing so may cause you to accidentally take too much of the medication, at once, which could result in overdose.

What has your doctor advised? They should be able to help you find an equivalent that you can try.

The FDA classifies this medication as stimulant, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and anorexia.
