i assume that a "8 day washout" means not starting the emsam for 8 days after discontinuing the dexedrine. well, if your doctor said to, make sure you do. more to the point, emsam can be a wonderful drug but you really, really have to be careful because it has the potential for serious harm if used with certain pills/food. i've been on the same dose as you (6 mg patch every 24 hours) for 5 years. and the benefits have been tremendous-i spent literally 4 years trying what feels like every drug out there and none worked. but, again, it can be dangerous so avoid certain foods that can be looked up but 6 mg is the lowest dose available and the foods are generally not the problem since they tend to be weird ones like pickled herring. it's the foods that have been "cured" or Aged" so, yes, be vigilant. i don't drink but a friend who is also on emsam does so she just totally avoids red wine. we both eat chocolate and probably shouldn't but we don't eat a serious amount. but when it comes to drugs, just really make sure you tell any doctor who prescribes any med that you're on emsam. most won't know what you're talking about so say 'selegeline patch" or, at the minimum, "an maoi inhibitor." also try to go to the same pharmacy for all your meds and make sure it's a fairly large one or chain like cvs which has a system that will automatically flag a drug if there's a contraindication. finally, check everything yourself by searching for drug interactions on google. There are a number of sites where you can read about emsam in more detail and also plug in a drug (even an over-the-counter one) and they tell you if there's a chance for a bad interaction. and no adhd stimulants or most painkillers. hope emsam works as well for you as it does for me but PLEASE be careful!
