Dexedrine Shortage

I live in Newport News Va. I have been taking Dexedrine for 20 years for narcolepsy. I took my prescription to 7 pharmacies today. No pharmacy had any. Can anyone help?

Hi vickie,

Sorry to hear about your challenges with getting this prescription filled. From an outside perspective, I think your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer in order to see which pharmacies carry their dexedrine. I get the feeling that they would know who the biggest buyers of their products are and when they intend to ship out more of a particular medication to a said pharmacy. Hopefully that information isn't considered confidential though.

Other than this approach, the only recourse seems like it would be a lot calling or driving around as you've probably already been doing too much of as it is, based on your description. It's just kinda nerve-racking to me how our medical system leaves patients hanging with virtually no options except having to rely on someone else to see to it that you get what the doctor ordered.
