Dexamethasone Dosage Question

I have to take this med for 9 days. My first dose is three tabs of 4 mg for a total of 12 mg. Is this normal?

Yes, this is a steroid and they are commonly used this way, started with a large dose, to get a boost of it in your body to treat the condition in question, then slowly tapered over a certain time period.

Side effects you may experience can include: nausea, headache, weight gain and acne.

My father has colorectal cancer and now has metastasis brain and kidney. He was having nausea and during examination, metastasis in brain was found. He was prescribed Dexa for 9 days (3 tablets per day for 3 days, followed by 2 tablets for 3 days and then 1 tablet for 3 days). The nausea had stopped. However, it has resumed now and very low appetite. Will it be ok to restart Dexa after consultation with the doctor? Is there any other medication he can take for nausea and low appetite?
