Cyproheptadine Experience

I have just started this medicine,and I can say this is finally what I have been looking for. Monday was my fist day tring it, and it been a week, and I have goon from 95 to 98 im only a week. So I am so excited. My height is 5'2. My goal in to reach 25 more pounds so wish me luck.

I'm so glad you are seeing positive results with Cyproheptadine! I have read reports of others successfully gaining weight with this medication. Below is some additional information about Cyproheptadine and its many uses, as well as side effects:

Based on my research, Practin contains the active ingredient Cyproheptadine. Cyproheptadine is also sold under the brand name Periactin and is a first-generation antihistamine with additional anticholinergic, antiserotonergic, and local anesthetic properties.

Indications:

Cyproheptadine is used to treat allergic reactions (specifically hay fever).

Has shown effectiveness in the treatment of nightmares including nightmares related to post traumatic stress disorder.

Has been used in the management of moderate to severe cases of serotonin syndrome (a complex of symptoms associated with the use of serotonergic drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and monoamine oxidase inhibitors), and in cases of hyperserotoninaemia resulting from a serotonin producing carcinoid tumour.

Can be used as a preventive measure against migraine in children and adolescents.

May relieve SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction and drug-induced hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Used in the treatment of cyclical vomiting syndrome.

A long term use of the drug can stimulate the appetite and may lead to weight gain, which is helpful for underweight people.

According to a small study, Cyproheptadine hydrochloride has been found to improve sleep, calmness and negative symptoms in chronic schizophrenics who do not respond to other therapies.

Side effects of Cyproheptadine may include:

- headache, confusion, fatigue, restlessness, nervousness, excitation (especially in children), insomnia

- stomach discomfort, nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation

- dry mouth, nose and throat

- ringing in the ears

- thickening of phlegm

- shaking, excessive sweating

- muscle or bone ache

- early menstruation in women

- increase or loss of appetite, weight gain

- rapid or irregular heart beat

- faintness

- shortness of breath

- yellowing of skin and/or eyes (jaundice)

- rashes, itch and swelling

- passing urine frequently or difficulty in passing urine or dark urine

- numbness or tingling sensation in the hands or feet

- spinning sensation (vertigo)

The precautions also state -on a side note- that blurred vision and loss of coordination may also occur.
