Cut Oxycodone In Half Instant Release

Is 20mg oxycodone instant release ok to break in half and only take half. It has 12 on one side and NP on the other with a small line on top and bottom. I take the whole thing and makes me feel really sick. So I wanted to break it in half and only take half.

Yes, tablets can be cut, or broken, as long as your pharmacist has not directed you not to do so.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

While the instant release tablets are usually fine to cut in half, cutting extended-release tablets can be fatal! If you take a 24-hour extended release tablet of oxycodone, it keeps your blood levels constant for 24 hours, as though you took the immediate release tablets every 4 hours. If the coating is broken, 24 hours' worth of the drug immediately enters the bloodstream, increasing the dose by a factor of 4 or 6. Almost no one can survive a surge in blood levels like that. Narcan and immediate mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, intubation, and other immediate care is the only way to survive, and brain damage from oxygen deprivation is common.
